the best conversation

harbarger theory - The best conversation ALWAYS occurs over table of dirty dishes. Think back to one of those great meals where the food is pretty good and the conversation is fun and loud and thoughtful and filled with laughter. Then ... someone has the bright idea to move the group to the living room "where we'd all be more comfortable" and suddenly the conversation seems to dry up. We're always more comfortable just sitting at that table picking at the carcasses of the nearly empty plates, playing with our coffee cups and laughing and talking and arguing over the causes of the world or whether Brad and Angelina are gonna have more kids.

Wine make the conversation more AND less profound. Love your theories, Bro

Interesting... I always more conversations into the living room around the fire... and I don't find your theory true. But I agee the best way to START of conversation is around a meal. Until you have a 4-year-old. Then she starts singing "Barney" songs when you have company over. Hypothetically. And you have to put her to bed to have adult conversation.

sachandyman - I agree. Lubrication always lowers friction, until those lubricated have enough to raise the stupidity quotient!!

paul - the living room ... really? certainly the fire helps a lot, but I find that only works when the conversation starts in the living room ... or there is copious amounts of the above mentioned lubrication. As for Barney songs, well ... he may really be the devil!!

I think that one depends on how big the group is. I agree with you in a big group. However, with a small intimate group of friends, I much prefer conversation around a fire.
